Last weekend our team travelled to Glasgow for the annual Scottish Music Awards sponsored by SSE in aid of music therapy charity Nordoff Robins.
With the highly respected awards celebrating it’s 20th anniversary next year, last weekend it was Emeli Sande, Lewis Capaldi, The Temperance Movement and Nina Nesbitt topping the bill of this fundraising extravaganza. Joining them on stage was 4-piece Stephanie Cheape consisting of band members Don Wilson, Garry Aird and Jonny Queen alongside front woman herself Stephanie Cheape kicking off proceedings with a blazing version of their original track ‘Homebird’.
Having recently beaten off stiff competition from hundreds of Scottish artists, Stephanie Cheape battled their way to being crowned Spotlight with SSE on Capital 2017 champions in a closely fought showcase night at St Luke’s in Glasgow in-front of a panel of industry judges including Megan Impey from The Famous Company.Video Player00:0002:32
In front of the packed house at The Old Fruitmarket, Stephanie Cheape were announced onstage by host Donald MacLeod co-chair of Nordoff Robbins ahead of an evening celebrating the great and the good of the Scottish music industry with awards, performances and an auction which raised over £148,500 for Nordoff Robins.
Following an appearance on STV2 ‘Live At Five’ last week, Stephanie Cheape will now receive an artist starter pack worth £5000 from The Famous Company which includes recording a single to be released in early 2018 alongside a complete industry overhaul of their photography, artist branding and online marketing plus 3 months of A&R consultancy.
Speaking about winning the competition, Stephanie said, “Winning this competition has been our greatest achievement so far. We are so privileged to be representing Scotland’s unsigned artists and can’t thank Capital FM, SSE and Nordoff Robbins enough to be giving us the chance for our music to be heard. It’s given us a moment we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Opening the Scottish Music Awards last weekend was a dream come true, and now we’re looking forward to working with The Famous Company. Every musician and songwriter knows the music scene is a tough one so having experts at hand is an absolute life line and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”
